The joy of price adjustments

I had gone to Urban Outfitters just to exchange the sweater I most recently blogged (I purchased it in a size small for an extra small- they didn't have the extra small at the time that I had bought it) and lo and behold, the price had gone down! It was a pleasant surprise as I was exchanging it since the new price wasn't even on the tag, but it had gone down from $29.99 to $9.99! It was basically like getting free money- day totally made!

Item: Open knit sweater
Full retail price: $69.00
Original sale price: $29.99
New sale price: $9.99

Total savings (with tax): $66.68

Feeling pretty good right now!

Urban Outfitters: $56.47 = sweater and jeans

Yup, we're back to Urban Outfitters again (womp, womp). We did have a nice break/ change-up there for a bit, but I guess you know what they say, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Not that I'm old... Anyway, I was killing some time downtown recently and when I wasn't eating, I was shopping. If anyone else has other ideas for things to do to kill time downtown, my wallet (and overflowing closet) would really appreciate it. I thought this was the perfect seasonal-transition outfit. I loved the colour of the jeans and the really open-knit of the sweater is a great layering piece. I thought it was worth it!

What I got:
1. Open-knit sweater
    Full retail price: $69.00
    I paid: $29.99
2. Coloured jeans
    Full retail price: $69.00
    I paid: $19.99

Total savings (with tax): $99.47

Kijiji purchase: $70 = shoes

Being the crazy bargain hunter that I am, I'm sure it comes as a surprise to no-one that I also troll sites like Craigslist and Kijiji for things I want (mostly shoes and purses). Not only can you save a ton of money buying things second-hand (many things barely or not even used), but it's also environmentally friendly! In a search for a pair of Jeffrey Campbell Litas I came across this adorable little pair of Jeffrey Campbell lace-up heels with a cut-out pattern. I had seen them a while ago and couldn't get them out of my head, and as an upcoming event was quickly approaching for which these shoes would go PERFECTLY with the dress I am going to wear so I finally caved and bought them! While I can't really compare the price because I'm not quite sure how much these retailed for, I'd estimate that I paid roughly half the full retail price. These shoes were never worn and in perfect condition (and did I mention super cute?!), so even though $70 is a bit more than I would usually pay for any one item, I think they were worth it (I mean, Jeffrey Campbell... need I say more?)!

What I got:
Jeffrey Campbell lace-up heels
Full retail price: ?
I paid: $70

Savings: A good chunk of the full retail price, taxes, and the environment! (Actual savings unknown)

Indigo: $15.73 = 2 cookbooks

After a long day I decided to treat myself to a drink from Starbucks (because sometimes Tim Horton's just doesn't cut it!) and since I went to the one inside the Indigo I decided to peruse all the nifty things they've got there (isn't Indigo the best?!) while I drank. For those of you that have been reading my other blog, The Pursuit of Healthiness, you will know that I have been trying to broaden my currently limited cooking horizon, so it won't come as a huge surprise that the "Great Books, Great Prices) table of cookbooks caught my eye today. After browsing the selection (and of course, checking out the price range) I decided to treat myself to 2 books that suited my lifestyle and budget- "Taste of Home: Fresh & Easy (390 dishes that deliver no-fuss flavor)", and "Reader's Digest: The Great Weeknight Cookbook (365 sensationally simple dishes ready in just 30 minutes). Great deal AND 755 new recipes to try?! Yes please!

What I got:
1.  The Great Weeknight Cookbook
     Full retail price: $19.95
     I paid: $7.99
2. Fresh & Easy
    Full retail price: $17.95
    I paid: $6.99

Total savings (with tax): $24.07 (I paid less for both than either would have been at full price!)
