Club Monaco: $74.44 = 3 tops

Look look- a store that's not Urban Outfitters! I know you are all dying of shock... I usually find Club Monaco way out of my price range but they do have good sales every now and then and are a great place to find quality basics. And helpful hint- if you show your student card you can get 20% off regular priced and sale merchandise! However that discount cannot be combined with other promotions- such as today's additional 30% off all sale merchandise promo! Their massive sale section was practically in shambles, it really does take a certain amount of patience and determination to sift through that mess, but seek and you shall find! The long sleeves may not look like much in the pictures, but their wool and cashmere blend make them so amazingly soft and comfortable it's practically like wearing a cloud! So ya, got it in 2 colours. A staple of basics if I ever saw one (or 2)! The cream coloured one had a bit of shmutz on it, the girl said it would come right off but they gave me an extra 10% off- sweet! Mmmmm.... cashmere :)

What I got:
1. Faux-leather trim T-shirt with pocket
    Full retail price: $89.50
    I paid: $27.30
2. Cashmere-blend long sleeve top (cream)
    Full retail price: $79.50
    I paid: $18.27
3. Cashmere-blend long sleeve top (black)
    Full retail price: $79.50
    I paid: $20.30

Total savings (with tax): $206.37 (The tax savings alone was more than either of the long sleeves!)

Looking back, I'm actually pretty proud of this haul, I'd say this was one of my most successful ones in a while!

Urban Outfitters: $47.44 = a sweater and a hat

I happened to be downtown today for the long weekend so I thought I may as well do a bit of shopping while I was down there because that doesn't happen too often these days... and shop I did! I'll admit, this one wasn't one of my better bargain finds, but I have been eyeing this sweater for so long I just couldn't pass it up! And the hat was just awesome- I love anything that reminds me of my childhood! I had to get this Where is Waldo hat because it just made me so happy... even if I won't end up wearing it myself. Hooray random gifts for the boyfriend!

What I got:
1. Studded sweater
    Full retail price: $79.00
    I paid: $34.99
2. Where is Waldo hat
    Full retail price: $29.00
    I paid: $6.99

Total savings (with tax): $174.60 (actually, looks like I didn't do too bad after all!)

Urban Outfitters- $88.13 = 2 pairs of jeans

I'm starting to wonder if this is turning into an Urban Outfitters-specific problem that I have... maybe I should change the name of this blog to "Confessions of an urban-outfittiers-a-holic! All BDG jeans are now just $39.00, and they have them in all different colours, prints, and embellishments. Still not 100% sure if I'm going to keep the second pair tho... they are a bit much, and not too sure if I can actually pull them off, but their crazy embellishments and even crazier deal were just such a winning combination I had to go for it!

What I got:
1. Printed jeans
    Full retail price: $79.00
    I paid: $39.00
2. Embellished jeans
Full retail price: $144.00 (SO not gonna happen)
I paid: $39.00 (for the price I had to at least give them a shot!)

Total savings (after tax): $163.86- The savings alone is almost double what I ended up paying, and the taxes alone would have been more than half of what I paid for one pair!

Sale-a-holic tips

It's been a little while since my last post- that must mean I'm getting better at resisting sale temptation, yay! So until my next moment of weakness, here are some of my very best tips for getting the most bang for your buck! Enjoy!

1. Scope out the sales
Many of you I'm sure already know this one, but it is tried and true. I know that sifting through messy sale racks is a pain, but sometimes you can find some awesome things for great prices! In that messy pile is usually always a hidden gem.

2. Always keep the receipts
Sometimes you buy something and then the next time you're out shopping you see that the same thing you just bought went on sale, and you paid full price for it! Since this is obviously unacceptable, bring it back to the store with the receipt and more often than not you can return it and rebuy it for less, or get a price adjustment. And if before you take the tags off you end up deciding you just don't need it, (depending on the store's return policy) you can return it for a full refund!

3. Sign up for mailing lists
It usually only takes a few seconds and while most of the e-mails may just be trash, stores will often let you know about upcoming sales, promotions and sometimes they will even send you coupons!

4. Keep your eyes open
Sometimes you can find coupons in places like magazines or newspapers (school newspapers too!)

5. Buy it used
You can save a ton of money by buying almost anything pre-loved but still in great condition. Thrift stores are awesome for finding cheap and unique fashions, and many electronics stores sell everything from used movies, games, CD's etc. for great prices! You would also be surprised at the sweet deals you can find on websites like Craigslist and Ebay, and as an added bonus you're being eco-friendly and reducing waste by reusing old things instead of buying new ones. Three cheers for being smart AND environmentally friendly!

6. Wait it out
We all fall victim to impulse buys at some point or other and then later regret it (yes even me), so a good way to avoid this is if it's not an urgent need, just leave it. Let a day or two go by, and if you're still thinking about that item go back to the store, and if you're still just as much in love with it then buy it. If you don't remember it after some time goes by then chances are you're better off without having bought it.

7. Think hard
Ask yourself, do I need this? Will I wear this? Is it different from the things I already have? If the answer to any of these questions is no, then maybe consider putting it back.

8. When in doubt, ask!
Some stores like Club Monaco offer a 20% discount off regular-priced AND sale items to university and college students with a valid student ID. Score!

So there you have it, the secret's out! Maybe one day you'll be bragging to ME about all the good deals YOU get!

And for all the things I probably should have taken back but didn't, check out my clothes for sale! The more new things I buy- the more older things I will be forced to sell!

If bargain-hunting were some sort of game, I feel like this one would have earned me a pretty high score.
